Why protecting leather is important

Leather is exposed every day to moisture, dirt, perspiration, salt, UV radiation, and friction. Without proper protection, these influences can gradually affect the surface, causing leather to become dirty more quickly, more difficult to clean, and more prone to wear and fading.

A protective layer does not prevent leather from being used, but it does reduce the impact of everyday wear. This helps keep leather looking beautiful for longer, makes maintenance easier, and preserves its premium appearance.

Suitable for high-quality smooth leather and PU-coated leather

The formula is suitable for high-quality finished smooth leather and modern PU-coated leather. PU stands for polyurethane: a protective topcoat commonly applied to modern leather to improve durability, create a more uniform finish, and increase resistance to everyday use.

Instructions for use: Van Doorn Exclusief Derma Leather System

For the best results, follow the three steps of the Van Doorn Exclusief Derma Leather System.

Step 1 – Clean
Remove dirt, sweat, grease, and skin oils with the Van Doorn Exclusief Derma Leather Cleaner.

Step 2 – Condition
Apply a thin layer of Van Doorn Exclusief Derma Leather Conditioner using a sponge or soft cloth. This helps keep the leather fibres in optimal condition, supports natural suppleness, and helps prevent drying. Allow the leather to dry for at least 24 hours afterwards.
Recommended: approximately once every two months, depending on use and conditions.

Step 3 – Protect
Shake the bottle well before use. Apply a small amount of Derma Leather (PU) Protection evenly using a soft sponge or lint-free cloth. Spread the product evenly in a thin layer across the entire surface. Avoid excessive application and ensure no thick or wet spots remain. Allow the protective layer to cure completely for 12 to 24 hours before using the leather intensively. If in doubt, always test the product first on a small, inconspicuous area.
Recommended: up to three times per year.

Our leather care advice

A protective layer performs best on clean, dry, and properly conditioned leather. By cleaning first, conditioning with a thin layer, and then applying protection, leather stays beautiful for longer and future maintenance becomes significantly easier.

Use Derma Leather (PU) Protection no more than three times per year. More frequent application is generally unnecessary and may lead to unnecessary product build-up on the leather surface.

Why use a leather protection treatment?

Even well-maintained leather remains exposed to everyday wear. Dirt, moisture, perspiration, salt, and UV radiation gradually affect the surface and can accelerate ageing.

With modern PU-coated leather, much of the protection is provided by the polyurethane finish itself. That is why keeping this protective layer clean and properly protected is essential. Heavy leather greases, oils, and waxes are often not absorbed effectively and may remain on the surface, attracting dirt and reducing the leather's natural grip.

Van Doorn Exclusief Derma Leather (PU) Protection creates an almost invisible, breathable protective layer that helps minimise these effects. This keeps leather cleaner for longer, preserves its natural matte appearance, and makes future maintenance much easier.

Regular protection helps extend the lifespan of both the leather and its PU coating, making it the ideal final step of every complete leather care treatment.

Not suitable for patent leather

Derma Leather (PU) Protection is not suitable for patent leather riding boots. Patent leather has a sealed high-gloss finish and requires specially formulated care products.
